Highly energy-efficient cellular shades in a focused range of styles and fabrics. The fundamentals of a honeycomb shade, without the breadth of the Duette line.
Applause is Hunter Douglas's streamlined cellular shade: a double-cell honeycomb that traps air at the glass to help a room stay comfortable in both hot and cold weather. It offers a narrower selection of styles and fabrics than Duette, which is what makes it the more cost-conscious way into a honeycomb shade when the priority is comfort at the window rather than the widest possible choice. Discount Best Blinds and Shutters measures and installs it throughout Santa Rosa and Sonoma County.

The working part of any cellular shade is the pocket. Seen from the side, the fabric folds into cells that hold a layer of still air between the room and the glass, and that trapped air is what slows heat moving in either direction. Applause uses a double-cell construction, so there are two rows of pockets rather than one. The practical effect is most noticeable on older glass, on large exposures and in rooms that take strong afternoon sun.
Pleats come in a three-quarter-inch size and a larger double pleat. The smaller pleat keeps the shade fine-grained and suits smaller windows and traditional casings; the larger one draws fewer horizontal lines across a wide opening. Both stack compactly at the head of the window when raised.
Where Applause differs from [Duette](/products/cellular-honeycomb-shades) is breadth rather than principle. Duette carries more cell constructions, more fabrics and more operating systems, and is where we go when a room needs a specific combination. Applause covers the fundamentals well and costs less to do it, which often makes it the right answer for secondary bedrooms, hallways and whole-house jobs where consistency matters more than specifying each opening individually. We compare the two at the window rather than assuming the more expensive line is automatically the better fit.

Top-down lowers the shade from the head of the window so daylight comes in above eye level while the lower half of the glass stays covered, which is the configuration most people want on a street-facing room. Top-down/bottom-up adds the ability to raise from the bottom as well, so you can place the covered band exactly where the privacy problem is. A Duolite® system is also available, hanging a light-filtering and a room-darkening fabric on one headrail.
Both are cellular shades and both work the same way. Duette offers a much wider range of cell constructions, fabrics and operating systems, so it is the line to specify from when a particular room needs a particular combination. Applause offers a focused selection of the fundamentals at a lower cost, which often suits secondary rooms or a whole-house job where a consistent look matters more than specifying each window individually.
Yes, with the cordless Vertiglide™ system, which runs the cellular fabric vertically across a wide opening and moves by hand without cords. It is the same cell structure as the window shades, so a door and the windows around it can carry the same fabric. We check the track depth and handle clearance at the opening before specifying it.
